This project provides for the acquisition and development of a new 1.83-acre park in Hayward at the southwest corner of D & Clay Streets. The purchase of this Caltrans parcel, acquired for their now-canceled 238 Freeway Extension, is a great opportunity, as it is immediately adjacent to another recent acquisition, the 1350 E Street parcels. The two sites provide the new 4-acre Carol Pereira Park and a critical link in the future Foothill Trail.
The project has been awarded a $1.3 million Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for park development. The project has also been awarded a Habitat Conservation Fund grant for $597,000 for creek and habitat restoration.
