Approximately 3.1 acres of open space surrounding Laurel Elementary School, located at 2652 Vergil Court in Castro Valley, was acquired from Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) in December 2025. The property includes asphalt areas and playfields. After HUSD declared the school site surplus, HARD acquired the open space portions of the property while Hayward Twin Oaks Montessori Charter School completes its relocation to a new campus.
A design process has begun where the northern field will be converted into a public neighborhood park. The southern play areas will be renovated and remain available for student use during school days.
A series of community meetings are initiating the design process for the future park.
