Project Description
This project provides for the design and construction of park improvements at an existing park site. Improvements include renovated sports fields and planting and irrigation upgrades.
The master plan process began in summer 2019. Master planning of El Rancho Verde Park was done in conjunction with the Bidwell Park master plan.
Community Meeting #1 was held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 and an additional Community Meeting was held on Thursday, July 18, 2019. A preferred master plan, selected by the community on August 22, 2019, retains its primary use as sports fields, which includes one major, one minor, and one t-ball field clustered around a central plaza; scoreboard and scorekeeper booths; batting cages; sports lighting; shaded bleachers and dugouts; outfield viewing lawn; picnic areas; and new restroom/snack bar building. The concept plan also includes a children’s play area, which is a new neighborhood amenity that would attract other park users to El Rancho Verde Park. The HARD Board consequently approved the El Rancho Verde Park master plan in April 2020.
The project was placed on hold as HARD negotiated and completed the purchase of 2.48 acres from the New Haven Unified School District to expand El Rancho Verde Park. The purchase includes the NHUSD ball diamond and field. Planning has resumed and improvements are being prioritized to fit within the $3M project budget.
