Bidwell Park & El Rancho Verde Park Master Plan Staff Report_5_6_19
This project includes the design and construction of improvements to an existing park, including renovation of sports fields as well as planting and irrigation upgrades.
The master planning process began in summer 2019 and was conducted concurrently with the Bidwell Park master plan. Community Meeting #1 was held on June 20, 2019, followed by a second meeting on July 18, 2019. On August 22, 2019, the community selected a preferred master plan that retains the park’s primary use as sports fields.
The preferred plan includes one major field, one minor field, and one T-ball field organized around a central plaza. Additional features include scoreboards and scorekeeper booths, batting cages, sports lighting, shaded bleachers and dugouts, an outfield viewing lawn, picnic areas, and a new restroom and snack bar building. The concept plan also introduces a new children’s play area, expanding the park’s appeal as a neighborhood destination. The HARD Board approved the El Rancho Verde Park Master Plan in April 2020.
The project was subsequently placed on hold while HARD negotiated and completed the purchase of 2.48 acres from the New Haven Unified School District, expanding El Rancho Verde Park to include the NHUSD ball diamond and field. Planning has now resumed, and improvements are being prioritized to align with the $3 million project budget.
