This project will implement energy efficiency improvements at parks and facilities District-wide, resulting in energy and operational savings for an approximate energy cost
savings of $29,000,000 over thirty years.
The project evaluated ways to reduce energy consumption, produce energy with solar photovoltaics, and store energy for resiliency and cost savings. The following systems were assessed: lighting, heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC), building automation and controls, building envelope, IT equipment, appliances, building plug-loads, water/sewer, solar PV, battery storage, and EV charging.
The Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) that were identified as the most viable for HARD in terms energy cost savings, operational savings, infrastructure improvements, and climate protection include:
The ECMs will be installed at 26 District sites. As the project developed, it became evident that existing roofs at multiple sites identified for solar installation were beyond their useful life and needed significant repairs or replacement. The project also includes roof replacements at 11 sites.
Construction began in winter 2023 and is anticipated to be complete in 2025.
