This project involves the acquisition of approximately 3.1 acres of open space surrounding Laurel Elementary School, located at 2652 Vergil Court in Castro Valley. The property includes asphalt areas and playfields. After the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) declared the school site surplus, HARD acquired the open space portions of the property while Hayward Twin Oaks Montessori Charter School completes its relocation to a new campus.
The northern field will be converted into a public neighborhood park. The southern play areas will be renovated and remain available for student use during school days.
