Project Description
This project included the renovation and modernization of the . The scope of work began with a Facility Condition Assessment and proceeded through the design and construction of improvements to update the existing facility. Kava Massih Architects of Berkeley, CA, were retained to develop and complete the renovation design.
Two drop-in community meetings were held at the Senior Center on March 27 and 28, 2019, to gather input on user preferences. A Board of Directors study session followed on April 15, 2019, to review community feedback and discuss the overall design direction.
On June 18, 2019, a community meeting was conducted to present preliminary design concepts. On October 21, 2019, the Board reviewed renovation options for the Center’s lobby and entrance and provided direction to proceed with Scheme 1.
The project received a building permit from the City of Hayward, and a construction contract was awarded to JUV, Inc., of Oakland. Construction began on October 14, 2020.
Construction was completed, and the facility officially reopened on June 24, 2022.
