Project Description
This project provides for the renovation of the Hayward Area Senior Center. The project includes a facilities condition assessment and design and construction of improvements to modernize the existing facility. Kava Massih Architects of Berkeley, CA were retained to develop and complete the renovation designs for the facility.
Two drop-in community meetings were held at the senior center on March 27 and 28, 2019 to gather information about user preferences for the renovation project. A Board of Directors study session was held on April 15, 2019, to discuss the results of the community input and design direction for the renovation project.
A community meeting was held on June 18, 2019, to review the preliminary design concepts. The community presentations are available under the Documents tab and images from the community meeting are provided below. On Oct 21, 2019, the Board reviewed options for the renovation of the Center’s Lobby and Entrance, giving direction on scheme 1.
The project has received a building permit from the City of Hayward, and a construction contract awarded to JUV, Inc., of Oakland. The construction phase began on Oct. 14, 2020.
The construction is complete and the facility has officially reopened on June 24, 2022.
